OVERVIEW

The Assistant Controller (hereafter “AC”) position will be a senior member of the Refinery Finance team.  The AC will report to the Director Finance & Managerial Accounting but is based in Baltimore, MD. The AC will support Baltimore, MD (50%) and Yonkers, MD (25%) refinery controllers as a resource, the 25% balance of time will be for special projects.  The AC position is a key part of the talent pool development for the ASR Finance organization.  The goal is that the AC will learn the sugar refining business support, build relationships, understand the plant manufacturing and develop into becoming a full Controller overseeing a specific refinery and the AC is willing to relocate in the future to any of the refineries if and when a role does become available.

 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The AC will be a critical resource for the Refinery Controller and must learn and execute the monthly, quarterly and annual month end financial closing and reporting process including Month end accruals, purchase orders outstanding, cost flow, balance sheet reconciliations and presentation slides. The AC will learn to use the SAP ERP, Financial planning, and Procure to Pay software systems. The AC will also learn to create the weekly metrics, support the Capital Asset and Approval for Expenditure process and the annual budget and business planning process. The AC also assist the Site Controller regularly and Plant Operations Teams from time to time. The AC will need to understand the manufacturing process of the ASR plant(s) the position supports by being plant based and developing relationships with

 

WORK EXPERIENCES

You are a strong candidate for the AC position if you have

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in Finance and Accounting especially in Financial closing, Computer skills in Microsoft Office ( Excel and Powerpoint Presentations) or  if you are a licensed CPA with 2+ years public accounting experience we will certainly talk with you even if you have 4+ years of experience. CMA with strong 4+ years cost accounting experience will also be considered.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills, high integrity; roll up your sleeves strong work ethic, can do spirit and grit; eager to learn, assist others, work as a team and build relationships in a manufacturing environment; some travel to other sites. 
  • Willing to relocate to other Refineries if and when a position is available typically ~2 years or so.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Supply Chain, Computer Science or Finance.  Will consider candidates with Associates degree if  they have strong suitable work experience.  MBA or Advanced degrees will be a plus as will a CPA (non public accounting certification) or CMA.
