OVERVIEW

Conducts sample collection and Quality Testing to support the Sem Chi Rice Products Harvesting, Milling and Packaging Operations.

 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts sample collection and testing for chemical / physical testing of rice, rice brokens / Brewer’s Rice and rice flour following established methods.
  • Maintains records, databases, procedures and other documentation related to testing and reporting.
  • Sample submission to external labs for testing not completed at the facility or within the network.
  • Participates in laboratory Proficiency Testing to demonstrate proficiency.
  • Conduct daily, recorded walk through inspections of the operation to verify quality standards are being maintained and supports the Direct Observation program for quality inspections.
  • Support role in Food Safety and Food Quality training programs.
  • Support role-maintaining plant Food Safety/HACCP plan.
  • Participate in / contributes to monthly internal food safety audits.
  • Responsible for laboratory instrument calibration, inventory and ordering.
  • Absentee coverage provided by the Quality Technician (Microbiologist), the Food Technologist / Quality Auditor, Quality Supervisor or other appropriately trained designee (s).
  • Provides absentee coverage for the Quality Technician (Microbiologist), Food Technologist / Quality Auditor and some of the Quality Supervisors functions, as required.
  • Performs routine quality analyses
  • Monitors and maintains calibrations for lab equipment
  • Monitors lab instrument performance makes adjustments and/or alerts supervision to instrument problems
  • Reports to Supervisor the general condition of equipment and recommends replacement when necessary
  • Entering raw data into multiple databases and maintain chronology of entries
  • Analyzes environmental samples collected at throughout the refinery as required by environmental regulations
  • Maintains the inventory of reagents, chemicals, and supplies needed for analyses within the lab
  • Provides coverage for the microbiology lab
  • Upholds standards for work area cleanliness
  • Maintains required records and documentation
  • Prepares reports for interested stakeholders and abides by the Lab’s high customer service standards
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to maintain varied hours
  • Must be able to communicate both in written and verbal formats to various skill levels of employees
  • Must support food safety and food quality systems by auditing refinery areas and systems as well as by data collection and analysis
  • Must be familiar with effective inventory management practices
  • Must be able to effectively multi-task and prioritize workload
  • Must be able to analyze data for trends and to interpret and apply company and customer specifications
  • Must have abilities to operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment in a safe and proficient manner

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A laboratory background (or two years’ related experience). College degree preferred in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or 3-5 years of food safety and food quality experience. Preferred familiarity with USDA standards for Rice Inspection and Evaluations.
