Redpath Sugar is part of the ASR Group, the world’s largest refiner and marketer of cane sugar, with an annual production capacity of more than 6 million tons of sugar. 


The Redpath Belleville plant is a blending and packaging operation producing a variety of sugar containing products for customers in Canada and the U.S.  The plant operates state of the art high speed mixing and packaging systems supported by high level safety, quality and logistics systems.

The Quality Assurance Lab Technician is responsible for effectively planning and coordinating their time to ensure accurate analysis of all materials.  Through monitoring and auditing of all production areas the lab technician assists production to maintain Redpath Sugar Ltd. Quality and Food Safety Standards.



  • College/University Diploma/Degree or extensive laboratory experience (min. 3 years).
  • Computer knowledge in Word, Excel, Access and Internet communications.
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures to ensure accurate analysis of all materials.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management with strong goals and objectives.
  • Flexibility in hours to meet QA and Production needs.



  • Analyze initial production samples for all areas.  This involves visual, chemical, organoleptic analysis and documentation.
  • Audit production areas; monitor logbooks, weight control documents, and sanitation verification logs.
  • Perform GMP audits monthly and issue work orders as required.
  • Provide assistance to QA Supervisor and Production Supervisors in trouble shooting production problems.
  • Provide support to other departments as required.
  • Provide refresher training on quality procedures to plant personnel to ensure compliance with the HACCP plan.
  • Create, revise, update and implement plant quality and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform on-sites as outlined in quality procedures and HACCP/SQF programs.
  • Monitor metal detection for all lines.
  • Monitor x-ray equipment on applicable lines.
  • Document and investigate D.M.R.’s as required.
  • Creates trial documents and reviews trials with QA and Production as outlined in the trial.
  • Hold and Release material as outlined in the Hold Procedure and DMR procedure.
  • Calibrate and maintain equipment used by Q.A. and Production, for use in Q.A. analysis.
  • Extract overage raw material list and obtain samples as required for further evaluation and disposition.
  • Assemble retained samples for mezzanine.  Review and maintain mezzanine.
  • Organize and coordinate the micro testing requirements.
  • Evaluate incoming raw materials for visuals and granulation as required. 
  • Review raw material COA’s for compliance to the specifications.
  • Maintain the MSDS program.
  • Swab new and refurbished equipment to determine if proper sanitation has been performed.
  • Complete all environmental and pathogen swabbing requirements.
  • Prepare C.O.A.’s for customer requirements.
  • Maintain and continuously improve allergen program.
  • Provide back-up support to other Q.A. Technicians as needed.
  • Provide support for implementation of new lines and assist in the development of the HACCP plans.
  • Performs other duties as required by Management.
