OVERVIEW

The Process engineer will join the New Product Development (NPD) group as a thought leader, focused on process development and understanding.  In this role, they will manage ongoing projects by providing timelines and partnering with cross-functional teams to accomplish project goals.   The individual will execute both pilot and production plant trials, gather and analyze data, then develop preliminary findings.  This individual will also prepare written reports to aptly provide feedback and direction to the team. Additionally, this individual will work with management to identify and deliver cost savings by leveraging continuous improvement practices and assessing new technologies that drive efficiency.

 

POSITION STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES AND KEY DELIVERABLES

  • Timely development and completion of technical projects through the “stage gate process” to meet the expectations of our customers
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of laboratory and pilot plant activities in order to provide new product samples, experimental data, & test results
  • Undertake process development trials as necessary to transfer new or improved processes from the bench scale to pilot plant scale
  • Assist in the transfer of new or improved processes to the commercial scale, including their commissioning
  • Prepare reports, specifications, designs and presentations to communicate findings and best practices with other ASR business units
  • Develop training materials and participate in training ASR staff as needed; adhere to training timelines as prescribed
  • Prioritize tasks to ensure business and team objectives are met
  • Contributes to producing design guides and templates to ensure consistency across projects
  • Monitoring of manufacturing KPI systems and assessing opportunities for continuous improvement

 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safety - Ensure safe design and operation in consideration of new product, equipment and process development by deploying suitable disciplines and procedures.  Follow all ASR safety protocols while working in the Laboratory, Pilot Plant and in other areas (i.e. other refineries or non-refinery operations).
  • Process Engineering - Provide process evaluation and process design for active and prospective projects. Develop detailed documentation of NPD processes for commercialization either internally or externally.  Management and operation of equipment in the Pilot Plant for product trials and experimentation.
  • Innovation - Supports the development of new products and processes to provide viable, technical solutions, for implementation within production facilities throughout ASR Group.  Analyze data from pilot plant trials and production operations to determine where and how improvements can best be made. Assist in the development, sharing and implementation of best practices.
  • Team - Works closely with other members of the R&T Department, NPD Team and Operations Managers to ensure activities are aligned with business needs.

 

WORK EXPERIENCES

  • 1-3 years of Process Engineering experience
  • 0-3 year of plant and pilot plant operations experience
  • Awareness of sugar processing industry is preferred

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution is required
  • Chemical Engineering degree is highly preferred

  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook on an Advanced Level
  • Experience in MiniTab is preferred
  • Experience in calibration for spectrophotometry is a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time
