OVERVIEW

Under the direction of the Maintenance Superintendent, supervises the discharge from ocean-going vessels, storage in bulk silos and delivery of raw sugar to process on a 16-hour basis.

Responsible for all operations relating to receipt, storage and delivery to process of raw sugar.  Experience with unions, contract stevedore and navigating company agreements in order to minimize raw sugar handling costs.  Responsible for handling vessel arrival schedules with a minimum disruption to scheduled operations. Experience with raw sugar discharge system and conveying systems involved with the delivery to the raw sugar silos.  Directly supervises mechanics and electricians, and operators assigned to the Raw Sugar Station.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Supervises and plans vessel discharge to assure concurrence with contractual agreements and discharge plan so that a high level of efficiency is achieved at the lowest possible cost.
  • Allocates longshore personnel and arranges for required personnel to tie up and release ocean-going vessels at the raw sugar dock.  Represents the company in day-to-day dealings of Matson Terminals. 
  • Maintains close contact with the Logistics Department regarding conditions which may affect raw sugar operations at Crockett.  Maintains close liaison with Operations and Planning and Scheduling Departments regarding matters which may affect his/her area of operations.
  • Responsible for automatic weighing and sampling of raw sugar discharged from vessels.  Responsible for delivery of correct blend of raw sugar to melt.
  • Prepares reports and records as required.  Monitors time sheets for Maintenance personnel.
  • Responsibility to guarantee that maintenance is performed and that vessel discharge, conveying and raw sugar crane equipment are in operating condition.
  • Conducts frequent inspections of operations and equipment under his/her control to assure that safe and approved work practices are followed and that state and federal safety regulations are observed.
  • Advises the Maintenance Superintendent of conditions or problems that may affect operations or warrant attention of higher authority.
  • Responsible for implementing safety, environment, and quality procedures.
  • Responsible for leading/managing improvement projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Required Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance or service organization.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and train employees in a team based environment.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to Lead, Supervise, and make decisions.
  • Accountable for achieving the shipping program at minimum cost while optimizing relationships with the union.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays, if appropriate.
  • Industrial food processing experience preferred.
  • 4 year degree or 5 years supervisory experience on a maintenance team in similar refinery or manufacturing operation required and 10 years electrical and instrumentation experience in an industrial setting.
