OVERVIEW

 

A global cross-function role between GSG and Finance with a goal to co-ordinate electricity exposures across ASR Group refining assets in the US, Canada and Europe to improving the decision making on purchase / sale across group assets and contributing towards ASR’s carbon reduction goals.

 

The energy analyst will be based in Bedford Street reporting to the VP Market Analysis (directly) / VP Finance Europe (indirectly):

 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Build out a summary of global exposures by individual refining locations including variables that determine electricity needs / availability.
  • Summarise insights into regional electricity markets, counterparties and ability to transact (ie physical vs derivatives / price discovery etc).
  • Participate in idea generation with the GSG analysis team to improve the purchase and sale of electricity to the Energy Decision Group.
  • Assistance in the development of insights into energy markets (Nat Gas / Electricity / Veg Oil) as part of the analysis team and GSG energy traders.
  • Co-ordinate regulated and voluntary carbon market exposures across ASR Group Refining Assets and relationship to energy use.
  •  Support energy trading decisions (Nat Gas / Electricity / Carbon) through co-ordinated position management with all GSG stakeholders.

 

WORK EXPERIENCES

Experince of working in relevant and or related commodity markets.

Familiarity with commodity derivatives

An understanding of the electricity market and Electricity Market Reform is ideal, but training can be provided to gain or enhance knowledge.

 

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

degree (or equivalent) in a highly numerate subject

 

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)

 

  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for data quality combined with exceptional problem-solving skills
  • The ability to convey complex technical concepts to those with little or no modelling background in a meaningful, relevant and engaging matter.
  • A strong capability in Excel is essential while experience in using Power BI and Python is desirable. Needs to be able to create powerful data driven presentations in PowerPoint.
  • Good team worker and highly flexible when dealing with requests from stakeholders.
