The Senior Food Scientist, NPD must be able to technically lead new product innovation and successfully develop, execute and manage NPD projects within the organization (global and local). The individual will independently research, design, conduct experiments, gather data, develop preliminary findings, assess technical feasibility and prepare written reports to drive new/improved products, cost savings and unique technologies.  They will identify project barriers and recommend technical solutions. This individual will have the opportunity to lead and direct the work of other scientists to achieve their primary responsibility of formulating new products to meet the company’s objectives. 



  • Designs and develops new products from bench top to commercialization while staying within specified parameters of cost and label claims; evaluates new ingredients, verifies nutritional profiles, and conducts product or packaging stability assessments to deliver against design briefs
  • Develops lab and pilot plant processes, systems, and technologies by keeping informed of new and existing equipment, approaches and techniques; designing experiments; preparing products for testing; evaluating test results; and providing conclusions or next steps
  • Develops and implements projects while preserving a safe and accident-free laboratory and pilot environment.
  • Leads production trials with technical cross-functional team members that concentrates on validation of current and new product formulation.
  • Documents processes and procedures in electronic notebooks, prepares technical reports, and develops product specifications for approval by Product Development, QA, and Regulatory.
  • Identifies opportunities for competitive market advantage, provides insights and direction to marketing, sales, operations and customers for new products and technologies that drive product portfolio and strategic vision.
  • Manages multiple projects leveraging Product Development resources.
  • Collaborates with cross functional teams through project meetings by providing technical direction and implementing solutions.
  • Ensures the NPD procedures/protocols are kept up-to-date as part of the QMS adherence requirements and leads the development of quality assurance programs partnering with QA.
  • Effectively uses technical and business acumen to explain concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, tailoring communications to meet diverse needs.Acts as a technical consultant for the company and is able to troubleshoot processes (Manufacturing / NPD Laboratory / Pilot Plant) to find solutions to problems.
  • Complies with GMP/GLP rules and regulations while conducting experiments and trials with a safe quality mindset. 



  • Work experience in product development or process engineering within consumer goods industry.
  • Knowledge of DOE, analytical and physical testing methodologies within food industry, such as moisture, color, rheology, and spectroscopy.
  • Experience and understanding of the stage/gate process in Project management and can lead others in delivering multiple parallel work streams to successfully deliver NPD projects.
  • Supervision and coaching of a small team of 1-2 Food Scientists.
  • Comfortable presenting to broader groups (e.g. internal cross functional teams and external customers).
  • Familiar with Genesis or similar software.
  • Compusense Sensory Software is a plus.
  • Experience with SAP PLM preferred but not necessary.



Bachelors or Masters in Food Science or related field.
