OVERVIEW
The Draftsman will work with Management, Supervisors, and, Project Engineers to manage and create all documentation associated with projects. The documentation will primarily be created using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. The scope of the job will span all elements of the project life cycle inclusive of gathering project requirements, preliminary and final design, bill of materials, and As-Builts of equipment and materials, project monitoring and control. Work will also include updating management of documentation for existing equipment systems.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates daily with Management, Supervisors, and Project Engineer regarding day-to-day projects progress.
- Conducts engineering analysis and develops recommendations to maintain and improve plant efficiency, reliability, safety and environmental compliance and cost performance.
- Works jointly with operations and maintenance to continuously identify, develop plant improvements.
- Consult technical handbooks and tables while in drafting phase.
- Prepare engineering drawings that detail plans and specifications.
- Assist operations, maintenance, engineering, and project management staff with day-to-day project functions, as needed, including researching product or equipment specifications contacting vendors, and other support functions as needed.
- Work as part of a collaborative team to balance workloads and ensure drawings deliverables are produced on time.
- Prepare complex drawings (e.g., PFDs, P&IDs, 3D Solid models, scaled equipment layouts, and equipment details).
- Work under the direction of Management or Assigned Supervisor to design complex drawings, such as P&ID, construction documents, routine equipment design layouts, detailed drawings, and piping.
- Must be able to provide budget recommendations for both maintenance and operations.
- Must be able to develop and implement engineering goals, objectives & operational improvements that are consistent with Company’s objectives.
- Works jointly with others in the field dimensions taken and design development through the field discussions.
- Provides technical support and direction to contractors in the field or through the drawing notes.
- Assist by scheduling contractor’s work assignments, setting priorities, and directing contractual work schedules to meet project schedules.
- Assist in the filing and organizing of drawings and project’s folders.
- Examine objects, systems, or facilities, and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs.
- Identifies and develops or arranges for worker training in safety, repair and maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use for new equipment and operational procedures.
- Maintain up to date records of mill equipment checks, inspection reports, operation logs, and material tracking documents.
- Preparation of drawings and checking as-built measurements for maintenance works.
- Assist with plant wide maintenance planning and equipment replacement documents.
- Assist with shipment and delivery of large mill equipment parts for maintenance works.
- Assist with coordination of works and supervision of manpower during coverage and outages.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- 2 to 5 years AutoCAD experience
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (2012 or newer version)
- Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and practices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Knowledge of AutoCAD)
- AutoCAD training (2yr Associates degree in Drafting Technology or Equivalent)
LEVEL OF SUPERVISION
- Report to Management or Assigned Supervisor.
- Drafter/Design Technician will work with maintenance, operations, and engineering staff to set work priorities.
- Work independently based on instructions, directions, or requests received from Supervisor and/or Management.
ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)
- Have demonstrated knowledge of the equipment, methods and materials used in the design, retrofit, repair and maintenance of industrial process facilities.
- Have demonstrated knowledge of theory and relationships between components in industrial process.
- Have demonstrated knowledge of various types of boilers and associated auxiliary systems in a power plant, and sugar industrial process.
- Skill in reading, interpreting, and analyzing information from instruments, charts, and schematic drawings as applicable
- Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with co-workers and outside agencies.
- Skill in developing, implementing, and overseeing through completion both long and short-term project plans.
- Skill in resolving problems or situations requiring the exercise of good judgment.
- Skill in preparing clear and concise written reports.
- Skill in project planning draft drawings, material lists, and drafting project scope.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner with Project engineer, plant employees at all working and management levels.
- Experience with Auto Cad software preferred.
- Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites.
- Ability to receive, comprehend and utilize OSHA required training.
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency egress situations.
- Ability to work in contrasting plant environments.
- Ability to move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, wet and muddy areas, and uneven surfaces.
