OVERVIEW

The Process Engineer will primarily focus on energy initiatives and projects in process and powerhouse. They will be responsible for all process related items that drive our MBTU/cwt, Water/ctw, steam/cwt and air/cwt goals and improving efficiency by developing & executing process improvements.  Lead process improvement by identifying root causes of issues by gathering & evaluating relevant data & working with Quality Assurance and plant operations.  Is also responsible for improving existing operations and manufacturing technologies and provides technical support to the Yonkers Refinery. They will work heavily with process, but also packaging, powerhouse and maintenance to achieve the refinery goals.  This engineer will also work on the reliability of the plant through their efforts.

 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for developing methods of improving the existing process through automation, process developments and new technologies.
  • Works with Control Engineers to optimize Process Controls to fine-tune process control points to achieve efficiencies and improved quality.
  • Assist process superintendents and supervisors as needed to troubleshoot issues in the process.
  • Strives to constantly improve the energy efficiency of the process and the refinery.
  • Manages process projects and tasks as assigned by the process manager.                      
  • Works within all safety, environmental, food safety, and food security procedures.                      
  • Able to perform lab testing to support improvements.                      
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

WORK EXPERIENCES

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Process/Chemical Engineer.
  • Knowledge and experience with heat exchangers, evaporation, crystallization, heat and mass transfer/balances, thermodynamics, chemical reaction equations.
  • Understanding of Process Control Design, Implementation and commissioning to optimize unit operations.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects with overlapping tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, develops solutions, and quickly implements their strategy.
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail and follow through to resolve any outstanding issues.
  • Proficient skills specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visual Basic and Outlook are required.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekend as needed to learn the process, shutdown and start-ups, supervise projects and relieve process supervisors.
  • Fundamental understanding of food standards, safety and sanitary regulations and good manufacturing practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.                       
  • Able to work in a physical environment, including extreme temperatures and noise.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. degree (or higher) in Engineering (Chemical preferred) or related field from an accredited college/university.
