OVERVIEW

The Process Engineer is responsible for improving production efficiency by developing & executing process improvements relating to quality, productivity, equipment reliability, safety and yield.  Lead process improvement by identifying root causes of specific quality & operations issues by gathering & evaluating relevant data & working with Quality Assurance and plant operations.  Is also responsible for improving existing operations and manufacturing technologies and provides technical support to the Yonkers Refinery.

 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for developing methods of improving the existing process through automation, process developments and new technologies.
  • Works with Control Engineers to optimize Process Controls to fine tune process control points to achieve efficiencies and improved quality.
  • Assist process superintendents and supervisors as needed to troubleshoot issues in the process.
  • Strives to constantly improve the energy efficiency of the process and the refinery.
  • Manages process projects and tasks as assigned by the process manager.                       
  • Works within all safety, environmental, food safety and food security procedures.                      
  • Able to perform lab testing to support improvements.                      
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

WORK EXPERIENCES

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Process/Chemical Engineer.
  • Knowledge and experience with heat exchangers, evaporation, crystallization, heat and mass transfer/balances, thermodynamics, chemical reaction equations.
  • Understanding of Process Control Design, Implementation and commissioning to optimize unit operations.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects with overlapping tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, develops solutions, and quickly implements their strategy.
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail and follow through to resolve any outstanding issues.
  • Proficient skills specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visual Basic and Outlook are required.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekend as needed to learn the process, shutdown and start-ups, supervise projects and relieve process supervisors.
  • Fundamental understanding of food standards, safety and sanitary regulations and good manufacturing practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.                       
  • Able to work in a physical environment, including extreme temperatures and noise.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. degree (or higher) in Engineering (Chemical preferred) or related field from an accredited college/university.
