POSITION SUMMARY

The Corporate Quality Project Manager will be the main quality and food safety interface to the Corporate Engineering function.

The role will own the food safety, quality and sanitation aspects of equipment specifications, and functional specifications for foreign material control equipment such as metal detectors, X-ray, magnets and screens.

 

The role will also ensure that food safety and quality requirements are included at concept stage of major corporate engineering projects and maintained throughout the project to release for production. This will include the choice and design of equipment, design of process and engineering of the project implementation (ensuring that the entire installation allows access for food safety and quality checks, complies with GMNP and sanitation requirements and is finished and cleaned to a suitable standard for food production).

This role will be heavily focussed on the creation of Quality, Food Safety and Sanitary Design standards associated with a planned significant project at the Chalmette refinery, and other currently in feasibility study stage.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIESB

  • Ownership of foreign material removal equipment specifications
  • Ownership of food safety, GMP and sanitary design for all equipment
  • Inputs to the Capital approval (AFE & CPC) process to ensure appropriate local and corporate quality involvement and approvals are in place
  • Food Safety and Quality interface to all major corporate engineering projects to provide requirements, advice and release for production
  • Works in alignment with R&T to assess the impact of any new refining and packing technology proposed for introduction. Owns the co-ordination of any updates required to policies, procedures and specifications required by corporate quality.
  • Is accountable for ensuring appropriate resources are available to walk installations, necessary reviews are being completed on time and approval from a Food Safety, Quality, EHS and Sanitation for perspective at key project stage gates.
  • Keeps manager informed of issues within assigned area of responsibility; escalates issues to appropriate parties as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Train others on how to properly evaluate work sites at their sites to sign off on smaller projects
  • Development and implementation of engineering project stage gate documents from project scoping to handover for EHS, Quality and Sanitation Functions.  Note: SME responsibility for EHS is with EHS.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachler’s Degree level qualification in food science/technology or related discipline
  • Recognized high level qualification in HACCP/Food safety plans
  • 2 years of professional experience working with engineering installations/significant projects

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience leading a food safety team in a complex process facility
  • General knowledge of global food legislation and industry best practice with respect to equipment and facility design
  • Membership of a professional organisation specialising in sanitary design of food manufacturing equipment
  • Experience and understanding of the cause of incidents with the food and sugar industries
  • Experience working for a global company

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • National and international travel to company sites as required to support projects. Expected to be approximately 25% travel.
