OVERVIEW
The Knuckle Boom Operator is responsible for safely operating a knuckle boom crane to load, unload, lift, move, and place materials and equipment at designated locations. This position requires adherence to company safety policies, proper equipment inspections, and effective coordination with supervisors, customers, and team members to ensure efficient operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate knuckle boom cranes safely and efficiently.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of cranes and related equipment.
- Load, unload, transport, and position materials according to job requirements.
- Interpret load charts and determine safe lifting capacities.
- Secure loads in compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
- Conduct routine equipment checks and report maintenance or repair needs.
- Follow established safety procedures and operational guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatch personnel and ground crews.
- Assist with job site setup and equipment preparation as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred based on operational needs.
- Previous experience operating a knuckle boom crane preferred.
- Knowledge of crane operation, rigging practices, and load securement procedures.
- Ability to read and understand load charts, work orders, and operational instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knuckle Boom Crane Operator Certification preferred.
- Experience in construction, transportation, utilities, or heavy equipment operations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and work outdoors.
- Ability to sit and operate equipment for extended periods.
- Good vision, hearing, and depth perception.
Work Environment
- Outdoor job sites, customer locations, industrial facilities, and construction environments.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and moving equipment.
- Overtime, weekends, and occasional travel may be required.
