Laboratory Technician

Redpath Sugar is part of the ASR Group, the world’s largest refiner and marketer of cane sugar, with an annual production capacity of more than 6 million tons of sugar.
The Redpath Belleville plant is a blending and packaging operation producing a variety of sugar containing products for customers in Canada and the U.S. The plant operates state of the art high speed mixing and packaging systems supported by high level safety, quality and logistics systems.

OVERVIEW
The Lab Tech conducts quality testing for the facilities products, maintains calibrated instrumentation, generation of Certificates of Analysis (COAs), conducts environmental sampling and analysis, and participates in other projects as assigned by supervisor. The position is typically weekly rotating 8 or 10-hour shifts for 24 hour coverage, including scheduled Saturday shifts. This is a contract position starting January 2026 and is expected to end in March 2027.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs routine quality analyses such as titratable acidity, granulation, %T, brix, moisture, pH, and environmental analyses
- Inspect and evaluate raw materials, in-process, and finished food products based on quality criteria such as weight, flavour, color, texture, and appearance.
- Identify, segregate and report any non-conforming or out-of-specification products to the quality assurance supervisor.
- Monitors and maintains calibrations for lab equipment (refractometers, moisture analyzers, scales, pH meters).
- Monitors lab instrument performance and adjusts and/or alerts supervision to instrument problems
- Reports to Supervisor the general condition of equipment and recommends replacement when necessary
- Entering raw data into multiple databases and maintain chronology of entries
- Verify and label samples for laboratory analysis.
- Upholds standards for work area cleanliness
- Maintains required records and documentation
- Record, summarize, and report quality control test results in production records or digital systems.
- Generation of customer COAs
- Support Continuous improvement and participate in internal quality audits.
- Support verification of packaging, labelling, and batch documentation for traceability.
- Communicates results to interested stakeholders and abides by the Lab’s high customer service standards
- Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 Quality Management System
- Follow all workplace health and safety and food safety protocols, including HACCP, GLP & GMP Standards.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned
WORK EXPERIENCES
- Quality inspection experience
- Experience requiring mathematical and scientific skill sets
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of two years of college in science or business field or equivalent work experience
- One (1)+ year experience in an analytical or laboratory environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or a related field from an accredited college university preferred
