OVERVIEW

The primary responsibility of the Laboratory Supervisor is to direct a team of specialized employees ensuring good manufacturing practices and safe operating procedures are followed to achieve on-time and accurate laboratory testing results.  The Laboratory Supervisor directly supervises employees.

 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Achieve results through direct reports including the management of the laboratory schedule to ensure the site is appropriately supported during all production.
  • Manages the data systems used to report and analyze the results of laboratory activities.
  • Conduct regular shift meetings regarding, safety, production, quality, and other information as needed.
  • Reviews procedures and identifies improvement areas, waste, and how to easily communicate the results to production.
  • Ensure all required quality and safety documentation and training is completed and delivered in accordance with department and company requirements including conducting audits.
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Performs duties for COA.
  • Develop and maintain a good working climate for the team.
  • Work effectively in a multi-tasking work environment, and prioritize work to meet both internal and external deadlines.
  • Work independently with minimum supervision and have the ability to interact positively with others within the corporate team and the management teams within each facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Conduct assigned Quality Systems Internal Audits per the annual calendar approved by QA Manager
  • Reviews daily magnet scalping samples to determine trends, potential risks, and escalate issues when necessary
  • Create weekly Lab schedule for all hourly employees in Kronos and in hard copy for posting
  • Reviews and approves employee’s timecards in Kronos
  • Work directly with the Union to review/make changes to current practices based on the business’ needs.

 

WORK EXPERIENCES

  • At least 3 years of applicable professional experience working in a quality laboratory for food manufacturing
  • Substantial experience working in a SQF and GFSI environment, HACCP, AIB, Food Safety
  • Experience in using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint at an intermediate level or higher
  • Knowledge of SAP (Enterprise Resource Planning aka software used to integrate all the different modules in the company) preferred
  • SQF and GFSI benchmarked standard training
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance/Control practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of Calibration of equipment

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology or a related field from an accredited college/university
  • Advanced degree in a related field of discipline from an accredited college university preferred

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • 6-10 direct reports

Pay Range

  • $67,000-$124,000
  • The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on the candidate's qualifications and prior experiences. ​​​​​​​
