Tate & Lyle Sugars has a rich history in sugars and syrups produced from sugar cane. In October 2010, American Sugar Holdings (ASR Group) acquired the EU sugar refining businesses of Tate & Lyle PLC, namely Tate & Lyle Sugars in the UK and Sidul in Portugal.

 

ASR Group is the world’s largest refiner and marketer of cane sugar, with an annual production capacity of more than 6 million tons of sugar. The company produces a full line of grocery, industrial, food service and specialty sweetener products. Across North America, ASR Group owns and operates six sugar refineries, located in Louisiana, New York, California, Maryland, Canada and Mexico. In the European Union, the company owns and operates sugar refineries in England, Portugal.  ASR Group also owns and operates mills in Mexico and Belize.  The company’s brand portfolio includes the leading brands Domino®, C&H®, Redpath®, Tate & Lyle®, Lyle’s® and Sidul®.

 

POSITION SCOPE

  • Working directly for the Manager Market Analysis as part of ASR’s global analytical team headed by the VP Market Analysis.
  • Assessing, reconciling and generating data on sugar trade flows.
  • Assessing, reconciling and generating data on the global freight market, natural gas market and carbon markets.
  • Analysis and processing of data from third party service providers and reconciliation with public data sources. 
  • Active monitoring of vessels movements using BMAP/Reuters and proprietary freight market insights originated by the wider Global Sugars Group team.

 

POSITION STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES AND KEY DELIVERABLES

  • Primary data capture within the analytical team.
  • Support ASR Market Analysts team and wider group as required in all areas.

 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • The capture, origination, management and manipulation of relevant data in excel and power BI. Very strong excel skills are required as well as a rigorous analytical approach, a commitment to data integrity and a flexibility of approach.
  • Developing and leveraging group knowledge as part of a global analytical team.

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)

  • Excellent numerical, analytical skills and an inquisitive approach.
  • Attention to detail and time management.
  • Ability to work constructively with in-house stakeholders.
  • Team player with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong interest in data/data science.
  • Strong statistical background.

 

ESSENTIAL WORK EXPERIENCES

  • Positive attitude and a genuine interest in generating first hand market intelligence.
  • Knowledge of computer programming (e.g. Python, SQL, Matlab, Power BI, etc.) would be helpful as the role requires extensive data management.
  • Familiarity with either Bloomberg or Reuters is preferable.

 

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree level essential preferably with A-levels in Maths, Science or Economics.
