POSITION SCOPE

Assist and support the European Legal Team in advising the business on a wide variety of commercial, litigation and compliance matters and supporting the Company Secretary in meeting all company secretarial duties for various entities.

 

POSITION STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES AND KEY DELIVERABLES

  • Ability to effectively interact with internal stakeholders as well as external customers and vendors to arrive at practical and legal solutions to business issues.
  • Ability to effectively support the General Counsel – Europe and the Senior Legal Advisor, as well as the European and global legal departments.
  • Sound commercial awareness and the ability to assess risk and give pragmatic, commercially-focused legal advice.
  • A positive, diligent and thorough approach to your work.
  • Ability to manage a varied workload with effective prioritisation of matters to provide a prompt and efficient service.

 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report to the Senior Legal Adviser.
  • Assist the business with a broad range of commercial and ad hoc matters undertaken by the European and global legal departments.
  • Draft, review and negotiate various commercial and other general agreements with the business’ customers and vendors.
  • Supporting the General Counsel with litigation matters.
  • Assist in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements of the business relating to competition law and data protection and assist in creating, maintaining and updating policies and procedures and legal department precedents.
  • Assist the Company Secretary in meeting all company secretarial duties for various entities.
  • Liaise with internal teams such as Sales, Human Recourses, Quality, Supply Chain and Marketing as well as external parties, including external legal advisors as appropriate.
  • Encouraged to get involved in supporting the business’ cultural, social and/or sports committees.

 

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, attention to detail, and excellent legal research and analysis skills, with demonstrable ability to apply these skills to produce pragmatic solutions.
  • Good understanding of contract and commercial law; and knowledge of competition law preferred.
  • Must be able to operate autonomously and effectively manage a diverse workload.
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a team player.
  • Organised, enthusiastic and self-motivated.
  • Willing to take on responsibility.

 

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A high quality lawyer with a minimum of one to four years of post-qualification experience.
  • Qualified as a Solicitor in England & Wales (or similar professional qualification, a legal qualification in a Commonwealth jurisdiction will be considered).

 

WORK EXPERIENCES

  • Exposure to a range of commercial legal work.
  • In-house experience or secondment ideally in the food sector or manufacturing sector preferred but not mandatory.
