POSITION SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Packaging Engineering Manager will lead the European New Product Development (NPD) Packaging team and play an integral role in the execution of packaging Innovation & Renovation projects as well as the creation & implementation of the overall packaging strategy.  Through a strategic approach, this individual will bridge gaps within cross-functional teams to meet or exceed the overall unified business objectives.  The Packaging Manager will be responsible for setting annual departmental goals and developing the team to achieve key performance objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provide direct and indirect leadership to the European NPD Packaging Team to ensure projects are delivered against customer and business objectives in a timely manner.
  • Administrate and coordinate change management techniques to ensure all packaging development meet or exceed production, supply chain, and consumer facing key performance indicators & project objectives.
  • Prioritization and stage gating of multiple Innovation & Renovation projects executions to achieve on time business objectives.
  • Develop and mentor European NPD and Packaging Team members; providing opportunities for professional development, personal growth, to ensure a solid succession plan.
  • Act as subject matter expertise to continuously advance packaging specifications, standards, methods, and supporting practices to address business needs; driving adoption thereto into internal & external packaging operations and other business functions where required.
  • Initiate new projects/concepts that drive profitable growth through implementation of value add packaging solutions, competitive packaging technologies, systems and processes through effective internal or external networking (i.e. commercial, operations, procurement, suppliers, and other miscellaneous networks).
  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related Science or Engineering field from an accredited university
  • Strong work experience within a Package Development role
  • Proven change management skills; demonstrated ability to implement initiative across multiple functional areas
  • Strong problem solving abilities, judgment and decision-making skills supported by sound technical justification
  • Working knowledge of a broad range of packaging materials and packaging equipment commonly found within the Food and Beverage or CPG Industries
  • Ability to understand and apply broad business perspectives to our large, vertically integrated organization and translate that knowledge into project design plans
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to apply critical thinking strategies when translating customer needs/insights to viable packaging concepts
  • Ability to analyze complex information and perform root cause analysis
  • Advanced ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite, CAPE or equivalent

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working in the Food and Beverage or CPG Industry is preferred
  • Advanced degree is preferred but not required

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficiency speaking/reading/writing in other languages such as Portuguese, German, and/or Italian is highly preferred

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Small team (1 – 5 direct reports)

 

TRAVEL

  • This position will require moderate – heavy travel throughout the UK & EU (approximately 30%) as well as some limited travel internationally (<10%)
