The Chief Engineering, Agriculture will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing land conditioning and land preparation activities to support the optimal establishment of sugarcane crops, achievement of productivity targets, and compliance with the company’s environmental, safety, and quality standards. This position is also responsible for coordinating civil engineering works and the development and maintenance of field hydraulic infrastructure and access roads. In addition, the role supports the progressive expansion of irrigation across sugarcane fields.

 

 

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Irrigation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree of Science (MSc) would be preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in agriculture or agricultural engineering.
  • Experience in sugarcane farming and field infrastructure development is required.

 

 

Skills and Competencies: 

  • Practical experience in sugarcane field conversion, land preparation, and field infrastructure works.
  • Experience with land leveling technologies and RTK-based geospatial survey instruments and methodologies.
  • Advanced knowledge in land conversion and land conditioning activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, other management staff, and senior level management.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering, survey, or GIS-related tools used in agricultural operations.

 Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, schedule, and oversee land conditioning and land preparation activities, including the construction and maintenance of roads, irrigation systems, and drainage infrastructure across company-managed fields and sugarcane growers affiliated with AgGrowPro.
  • Monitor and report on operational performance indicators relevant to the Agricultural Engineering function.
  • Support the design, calculation, and validation of irrigation systems to be implemented on company-managed land as well as by sugarcane growers interested in irrigating their fields.
  • Evaluate the permanent requirements for culverts, box structures, and all types of civil work needed in the fields to ensure proper field operations, enabling effective irrigation and drainage.
  • Ensure the availability of the resources, inputs, and materials required for the proper functioning of the Agricultural Engineering Department.
  • Provide technical support and respond to service requests from the Director – Agriculture, Agriculture Managers, the Head of GIS, and cane suppliers, including guidance on field engineering, irrigation, and drainage matters.
