The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering support and technical supervision for the Sugar Factory, Power Plant, and related operations, ensuring electrical and instrumentation systems are maintained safely, efficiently, and in compliance with engineering standards. The role oversees maintenance activities, reliability improvements, and project execution while coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure work is completed to approved standards, scope, and schedule.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Training in industrial electrical systems, power distribution, drives, automation, control systems, project execution, maintenance planning, or reliability engineering is an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, industrial maintenance, power plant, sugar factory, manufacturing, or heavy industrial operations. demonstrated responsibility for supervising technical work, coordinating maintenance activities, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting project execution.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, industrial electrical distribution systems, motors, drives, soft starters, variable frequency drives, control systems, instrumentation, protection systems, electrical drawings, and maintenance best practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot, test, repair, and improve the reliability of electrical and control equipment in industrial operating environments.
- Strong supervisory, planning, coordination, delegation, and people-management skills, with the ability to organize work, motivate employees, monitor productivity, maintain discipline, and support workforce development.
- Ability to work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, project engineering, procurement, HSE, stores, contractors, suppliers, and employees from other departments to achieve safe and efficient work execution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare scopes of work, reports, maintenance updates, issue escalations, and technical recommendations clearly and promptly.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including after normal working hours, weekends, public holidays, and during crop or off-crop maintenance periods when required.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, industrial electrical distribution systems, motors, drives, soft starters, variable frequency drives, control systems, instrumentation, protection systems, electrical drawings, and maintenance best practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot, test, repair, and improve the reliability of electrical and control equipment in industrial operating environments.
- Strong supervisory, planning, coordination, delegation, and people-management skills, with the ability to organize work, motivate employees, monitor productivity, maintain discipline, and support workforce development.
- Provides day-to-day technical supervision, work direction, and coordination for assigned Electrical Department employees, technicians, contractors, and work crews engaged in electrical maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, project, and reliability activities.
- When assigned work requires support from employees in other departments, provides functional supervision for the specific job or work package by assigning tasks, explaining technical requirements, coordinating safe execution, monitoring progress, verifying workmanship, and escalating performance, safety, or resource issues to the relevant line manager as appropriate.
- Work closely with Sugar Factory and Power Plant management teams to provide electrical and instrumentation engineering services required to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise preventive, corrective, and reliability-based electrical maintenance activities during in-crop and off-crop periods.
- Develop, review, and support electrical distribution systems and industrial electrical installations using recognized standards, specifications, drawings, and company installation requirements.
