The Factory/Plant Manager will be responsible for leading the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the Tower Hill Sugar Mill and Power Plant. This includes oversight of milling, sugar processing, Direct Consumption Sugars, material and energy balances, production planning, quality performance, and key operational support functions. This role provides both strategic and hands-on leadership to ensure factory operations meet approved production, quality, safety, environmental, sustainability, and efficiency targets during both crop and off-crop periods. The Factory/Plant Manager will also support the Sr. Director, Industrial Operations in developing and implementing operational improvement plans, strengthening workforce capability, reinforcing company policies and procedures, and promoting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, compliance, and value-driven leadership across the factory team.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Sugar Technology, Manufacturing/Process Engineering, or a closely related science or engineering discipline. A postgraduate qualification in operations management, business administration, engineering management, or a related field would be an asset.
  • Minimum of ten (10) to fifteen (15)  years’ progressive experience in sugar manufacturing, agro-industrial processing, or a comparable high-volume process manufacturing environment, with at least five years in a senior management role overseeing multi-disciplinary operations.
  • Strong technical knowledge of sugar manufacturing operations, including cane preparation, milling, clarification, evaporation, crystallization, centrifugation, sugar drying, Direct Consumption Sugars, molasses handling, process control, and factory production planning.
  • Working knowledge of cogeneration power plant operations, steam and energy systems, material and energy balances, process optimization, factory logistics, maintenance coordination, and financial principles related to manufacturing performance and cost control.

  • Strong understanding of quality management systems, food safety or product quality controls, environmental management, occupational health and safety requirements, statutory compliance, and sustainability practices applicable to factory operations.
  • Proven ability to analyze production data, downtime trends, recovery performance, process losses, energy usage, operating costs, and other key performance indicators to support timely decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, as required by operational needs.

 

 

 Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee daily operations through milling, clarification, evaporation, crystallization, centrifugation, sugar drying, Direct Consumption Sugars, and cogeneration interfaces to ensure stable and efficient plant performance.
  • Ensure that approved production targets, efficiency rates, quality standards, safety expectations, and environmental requirements are consistently achieved.
  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor production schedules aligned with cane supply, factory capacity, product demand, power generation requirements, and operational priorities.
  • Maintain accurate production records, analyze output data, review material and energy balances, and prepare regular operational and performance reports for management review.
  • Ensure adherence to approved quality standards for raw sugar, Direct Consumption Sugars, molasses, and by-products by working closely with the Quality Supervisor, Quality Control, and Laboratory teams.
  • Monitor quality performance, investigate process deviations, and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented in a timely and sustainable manner.
  • Provide visible leadership in promoting a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with established Environment, Health, Safety, and Sustainability standards across areas of responsibility.
  • Lead, supervise, guide, and motivate Shift Production Superintendents/Supervisors, Shift Pan Boilers, Shift Operators, Power Plant interfaces, and other personnel assigned to production and related operations.
  • Plan and coordinate manpower development, technical training, cross-training, and on-the-job coaching to strengthen team capability, process knowledge, and operational resilience.
  • Work with the Engineering/Maintenance team to plan preventive maintenance and reduce equipment downtime.
  • Identify and discuss process improvement opportunities with the Industrial Operations Manager to enhance productivity, recovery rates, and cost efficiency.
