The Shift Process Supervisor oversees safe and efficient shift operations across key process areas to support consistent sugar production. This role supervises personnel, monitors process and equipment performance, coordinates with maintenance and other teams, and ensures compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and reporting standards.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred in Chemical Engineering, Process Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Sugar Technology, Industrial Operations, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of three (3)  to five (5) years’ experience in sugar manufacturing, agro-industrial processing, food manufacturing, or a comparable process production environment, preferably with shift supervision responsibilities.
  • Practical knowledge of sugar processing operations, including clarification, evaporation, crystallization, centrifugation, sugar drying, conditioning, packaging, chemical dosing, process control, and product handling.
  • Understanding of factory maintenance coordination, equipment reliability, shutdown/start-up activities, steam trials, cogeneration interfaces, and operational risk controls.

 

 

 

Skills and Competencies: 

  • Knowledge of QMS requirements, food safety practices, workplace safety regulations, environmental requirements, housekeeping standards, and applicable company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret production data, laboratory results, process parameters, equipment alarms, shift logs, downtime events, product quality trends, and operational variances to support timely corrective action.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and directly relevant sugar industry experience may be considered where they demonstrate the required technical competence, supervisory capability, and operational judgment.
  • Bilingual capabilities in English and Spanish would be an asset.
  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, coaching, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead diverse shift teams, assign work, monitor performance, reinforce standards, and maintain discipline in a production environment.
  • Sound working knowledge of sugar industry practices, QMS requirements, DCS or other process-control systems, laboratory data systems, electronic shift logs, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental compliance, food quality, housekeeping, 5S practices, and continuous improvement.

 

 

 

 Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, monitor, and control shift operations across the Boiling House, clarification, evaporation, pans, centrifugal, conditioning building, packaging room, and related process areas to achieve approved production, quality, safety, and efficiency targets.
  • Monitor process parameters, equipment performance, alarms, laboratory results, chemical dosing, product flows, sugar quality, product handling, and operating conditions to detect deviations and initiate timely corrective action.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate shift logs, production records, equipment condition reports, process data, downtime records, chemical usage records, and operational handover notes.
  • Report production performance, quality deviations, downtime events, abnormal operations, safety incidents, environmental concerns, and corrective actions promptly to the appropriate management personnel.
  • Liaise with the Laboratory and Quality teams to ensure process materials, intermediate products, final sugar, packaged product, and by-products comply with approved specifications and customer requirements.
  • Conduct or support toolbox meetings, safety observations, risk assessments, incident reporting, workplace inspections, and follow-up of corrective actions within the assigned area.
  • Build, guide, motivate, coach, and supervise effective shift teams across the Boiling House, Conditioning Building, Packaging Room, and assigned off-crop maintenance areas.
  • Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation, and Maintenance teams to communicate operational priorities, support asset reliability, and assist with planned maintenance, stop-day activities, shutdowns, start-ups, steam trials, and cogeneration-related events.
