OVERVIEW

As a member of the Osceola Mill Operations Team, the Steam Generation/Maintenance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations, maintenance and performance of steam generation, bagasse conveyers systems and support equipment.  The Steam Generation/Maintenance  Manager supports the Sr. Manager, Mill Operations in overseeing Boilers 2-6, 1-Steam/Maintenance Superintendent and a work force of 8-24 union hourly employees.  

 

Daily activities include coordination steam generation, 5 bagasse fired boilers, bagasse handling system, 3 turbo generator and cooling tower, and auxiliary equipment, maintaining records, logbooks, and technical libraries current.  Supporting the planning of activities of the aforementioned equipment, shift, and maintenance supervisors.

 

The Steam Generation/Maintenance Manager is also responsible for overseen operator of the Boiler feedwater system including condensate water tank and pump including aerator tank, bunker C, bagasse handling system and bagasse storage and logistics. 

 

The Steam Generation/Maintenance Manager is responsible to supervise operations and maintenance personnel as needed during coverage for direct supervisors.

 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The position is a manager directing and coordinating field activities of various supervisors, maintenance mechanics, welders, pipefitters and other maintenance trades to ensure conformance to established methods, policies, and maintenance procedures.
  • Responsible for implementing the day-to-day operations & maintenance of the boilers and auxiliary equipment.
  • Responsible for the distribution of work schedules, priority lists, and disassembly schedule for superintendent. Actualize maintenance repair schedule bi-weekly (at a minimum) for review by management.
  • Responsible for completion of shop fabrication drawings, and general reference drawings using AutoCAD software.
  • Responsible for shipping and maintaining tracking documents of boiler equipment.
  • Monitor operations, follow up KPIs and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Review schedule and support supervision of repairs of all equipment related to boilers.
  • Inspection of wear on boiler fan blades during the grinding campaign and during repairs.
  • Development of Scope of Works for repair projects and communication with outside contractors for execution of field works.
  • Maintain a current inventory of spares equipment on hand and critical spares list in the warehouse.
  • Coordinates activities by directing work assignments as scheduled, setting priorities, organizing and directing work of mechanical maintenance staff.
  • Provide shift relief for emergency coverage.
  • Maintains records, prepares reports, budgets and composes correspondence relative to work.
  • Requisitions materials, supplies, services, tools, and PPE’s as needed for the department.
  • Inspects mechanical boiler equipment to determine maintenance needs by visual observation, testing equipment, pre-determined maintenance intervals, and/or other approved measures.
  • Test & troubleshoot mechanical equipment and process to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Develop specifications from general descriptions and/or assemblies for fabrication.
  • Support establishment of schedules and methods for maintenance procedures and repair services; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established procedures; make recommendations for changes and/or improvements to existing equipment
  • Maintain mechanical bill of materials and technical libraries as required.
  •  Develop standard procedures for operation and maintenance activities as needed
  • Assure maintenance employees are adhering to safety policies and procedures, confined space entry, LOTO, and all other OSHA safety standards.
  • Support tracking of events that compromise safety, efficiency, reliability and availability of preparation, handling and milling equipment.
  • Active participation in the planning and execution of any capital project developed in the preparation, handling and milling areas.

 

Human resources management, safety and environmental

  • Schedule of boiler personnel during maintenance and operation activities.
  • Control overtime under budget limitations.
  • Enforce company policies and federal, state and local laws related to safety and the environment.
  • Perform safety and environmental inspections and coaching sessions.
  • Review the results of all the safety and environmental inspections made by supervisors or third parties and budget, schedule and execute corrective action plans as needed.
  • Intervene promptly to solve any dispute or misunderstanding among company employees and/or supervisors.
  • Active participation in accident reports and investigations involving mill personnel.

 

 

WORK EXPERIENCES

  • Minimum of 5 years working experience as a supervisor, drafter, or similar position in steam generators.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical disciplines from an accredited university.
  • Concentration in Mechanical Engineering highly desirable.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Responsible for Steam/Maintenance Superintendent and boiler staff.
  • Provide shift relief for emergency coverage.

 

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)

  • Effective communication skills both written & verbal, analytical ability, detail orientation, teamwork, technical leadership, and technical understanding
  • Ability to meet deadlines & budgets with excellent planning, organizing and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency with personal computers and application software desirable; specifically MS Office & Project.
  • Experienced with software programs, specific experience with SAP PM is desirable.
  • Experienced with CAD and drafting, specific experience with AutoCAD desirable.
  • Experienced reviewing technical drawings for fabrication of complex parts.
  • Experienced in collecting field data, measurements, and equipment alignments.
  • Excellent planning, organizing and decision-making skills.
  • Strong safety background related to industrial facilities and OSHA General Industry Regulations.
  • Understanding of material handling systems, piping, valves, pressure vessels, pumps, cooling towers, building & grounds, and air compressors beneficial.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices & Food Safety.
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish desirable.
