OVERVIEW

The Mill & Refinery Assistant Engineer will work with Management, Supervisors, Draftsman, and Project Engineers to create manage and execute project works. Works will be done using AutoCAD, DCS, SAP, and Microsoft Office. The scope of the job will span all elements of operations, maintenance, and projects facility wide.

 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates daily with Management and Supervisors regarding day-to-day operations, maintenance, and projects progress.
  • Conducts engineering analysis and develops recommendations to maintain and improve plant efficiency, reliability, safety and environmental compliance and cost performance.
  • Works jointly with operations superintendent to continuously identify, develop plant improvements.
  • Consult technical handbooks and tables.
  • Prepare engineering drawings that detail plans and specifications.
  • Support operations and maintenance with supervision as needed and equipment inspections daily.
  • Work as part of a collaborative team to balance workloads and ensure deliverables are produced on time.
  • Prepare complex drawings (e.g., PFDs, P&IDs, 3D Solid models, scaled equipment layouts, and equipment details).
  • Work under the direction of management to prepare operations documents (reports, procedures, etc.).
  • Must be able to provide project budget and maintenance work estimates.
  • Must be able to prepare detailed scope of works and material lists. 
  • Must be able to develop and implement engineering goals, objectives & operational improvements that are consistent with Company’s objectives.
  • Works jointly with others taking in field dimensions and design development through in field discussions.
  • Provides technical support and direction to contractors in the field.
  • Scheduling contractor’s work assignments, setting priorities, and directing contractual work schedules to meet project schedules.
  • Identifies and develops or arranges for worker training in safety, repair and maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use for new equipment and operational procedures.
  • Maintain up to date records of mill equipment checks, inspection reports, operation logs, and material tracking documents.
  • Preparation of drawings and checking as-built measurements for maintenance works.
  • Plant wide operations maintenance planning and equipment replacement documents.
  • Coordination of works and supervision of manpower during coverage and outages.
  • Serves as liaison for all general contractors regarding services to mill equipment.
  • Calculating and verifying of equipment performance specifications.
  • Optimization of process for efficiency and throughput.
  • Ensure that all mill operations comply with applicable safety standards.
  • Assist in controlling the cost of mill operations.
  • Assist with request of materials as needed and makes recommendations of equipment and/or components.
  • Direction and oversight of Shift Supervisors.
  • Responsible for the aspects of repairs and operation of grinding equipment which includes but not limited to cane preparation, mill tandem and power generation.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and be able to interact with other departments.
  • Assist as needed in plant operation emergencies. 
  • Must have excellent commitment to achieve overall corporate goals and objectives.
  • Must have excellent commitment to safety.   
  • Must be available for work nights and weekends as needed.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering,
  • 3-5 yrs experience minimum in sugar industry.
  • Strong communication skills and people management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Knowledge of AutoCAD).
  • Knowledge of SAP high desired.
  • AutoCAD training (2yr Associates degree in Drafting Technology or Equivalent)
     

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION

  • Report to Management or Assigned Supervisor.
  • Assist with Supervision of hourly employees and other bi-weekly staff.
  • Work independently based on instructions, directions, or requests received from Supervisor and/or Management.

  • Have demonstrated knowledge of the equipment, methods and materials used in the design, retrofit, repair and maintenance of industrial process facilities.
  • Have demonstrated knowledge of theory and relationships between components in industrial process.
  • Have demonstrated knowledge of various types of boilers and associated auxiliary systems in a power plant, and sugar industrial process.
  • Skill in reading, interpreting, and analyzing information from instruments, charts, and schematic drawings as applicable.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with co-workers and outside agencies.
  • Skill in developing, implementing, and overseeing through completion both long and short-term project plans.
  • Skill in resolving problems or situations requiring the exercise of good judgment.
  • Skill in preparing clear and concise written reports.
  • Skill in project planning draft drawings, material lists, and drafting project scope.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner with Project engineer, plant employees at all working and management levels.
  • Experience with Auto Cad software preferred.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Ability to receive, comprehend and utilize OSHA required training.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency egress situations.
  • Ability to work in contrasting plant environments.
  • Ability to move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, wet and muddy areas, and uneven surfaces.
