OVERVIEW
The Process Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of crystallization, evaporation, pan floor, and associated boiler and heating systems up to and including all yellow syrup production along with specialty syrup and blends. A key focus of this role is the Sugar Crystallization & Evaporation process.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety, Quality, Environmental & Energy Leadership
• Accountable for the health and safety of all personnel working within crystallization, evaporation, pan floor, and boiler operations.
• Promotes a strong safety and energy-aware culture through leadership, coaching, and visible presence on the floor.
Operations & Process Control
• Oversees crystallization, evaporation, pan boiling, syrup blending, granulation, and associated heating systems.
• Responsible for specialty syrup blends and large-grain granulation processes.
• Required to assume the duties of Sugar Boiler when necessary.
Training, Testing & Competency Management (Primary Emphasis)
• Develops, delivers, and maintains formal training, and authorization programs for all process staff.
• Conducts written, practical, and on-the-job competency assessments for personnel operating boilers, pans, evaporators, and associated energy systems.
• Ensures all Boiler Operators, Forepersons, Supervisors, and Engineers are properly trained, tested, certified where required, and competent to perform assigned duties.
• Identifies competency gaps and implements targeted training, mentoring, and corrective development plans.
• Maintains accurate training, qualifications, and compliance records in support of audits and regulatory requirements.
Leadership & Supervision
• Schedules, directs, and monitors the work of hourly and supervisory personnel within the department.
• Provides technical guidance, coaching, and performance feedback across all levels of process staff.
• Evaluates operational performance and adjusts staffing and work schedules to meet safety, quality, and production requirements.
Interdepartmental Collaboration
- Acts as the primary liaison with Powerhouse to coordinate steam supply, condensate return, and energy usage in support of production demands.
Maintenance & Engineering:
- Equipment, reliability, servicing, and improvement
- Laboratory & Quality: Product quality and environmental control
- Packaging: Coordination to meet granulated and soft sugar production demands
- Powerhouse: Steam, utilities, energy compliance, and production alignment
This role is also responsible for other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Recognized technical abilities and practical experience with strong capabilities in the following areas:
- Theory/functionality of manufacturing systems and unit operations;
- Manage multiple projects with overlapping tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficient skills specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook are required.
EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE
- B.S. degree (or technology diploma) in Engineering, Process Science or related field from an accredited college/university.
- 5+ years of experience in Process engineering\technology, Process development, quality engineering, or manufacturing.
- Minimum Engineering technologist diploma
- Minimum 2 years of manufacturing or process industry experience (sugar or heavy process industry preferred)
- Demonstrated mechanical and electrical aptitude
- Proven experience in training, testing, and qualifying process personnel
- Strong understanding of boiler operations, steam systems, and energy management principles

SALARY RANGE/COMPENSATION
- $68,000 to $118,000
- The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and prior experience. This is a vacant position.
