ASR Group/Redpath Sugar offers a one-year program called the Canadian Centre of Excellence which is designed to bring international professionals with experience in the sugar industry up to ASR standards.

 

A career as Sr. Process Engineer with ASR Group will add new skills, both technical and managerial. Ideally, the candidate has a qualification in chemical engineering and a minimum of eight years experience in a supervisory and/or technical position at a sugar refinery or factory. The successful candidates will have support and mentorship from process team members, company leaders and technical subject matter experts.

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Become familiar, learn and understand ASR regulations in the following areas: Safety, Quality, Continues Improvement, environmental and working in a unionized environment.
  • Become competent in the following ASR software functions: process control HMI and the use of trends and statistical process control.
  • Access and use lab reports, Daily shift report, Continuous Improvement tools, SAP maintenance system, Kronos attendance system and Visikum.
  • Familiarize and understand the following ASR services: steam, power and compressed air supply, lake water cooling system, condensate management, waste water treatment, mud disposal, resin and Carbon transfer.
  • Familiarize and understand the following process items: salt and lime off loading, specials transfer, yellow sugar transfer, sugar supply to packaging, bulk and liquid sugar loading and molasses storage, brix control and loading.
  • Monitor the technical performance of the plant, in particular, energy, water, sucrose loss, productivity, cost and product quality.  
  • Report situations where the plant is not meeting identified technical targets and recommend corrective actions.
  • Interfaces with all departments, in particular, Quality, Process, Maintenance, Corporate Engineering and Packaging.
  • Prepare process flow diagram, which includes material, energy and utility balance, based on existing equipment or recommended processes, and assist in updating operations and emergency procedures manuals.

  • Assist in the training operators when new projects are implemented or retraining is required.
  • Participate in all aspects of the safety, quality and sustainability programs.
  • Shadow the process superintendent or the process engineer when required.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • BS Chemical, Mechanical or Sugar Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 8 years’ sugar experience (A MUST)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong supervisory, technical, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven Leadership and process improvements skills
  • Manage multiple priorities with overlapping tasks and work independently with minimal supervision
