Florida Crystals is a leading domestic sugar producer and North America’s first fully integrated cane sugar company, guiding our sugar from farm to table.  We are America’s first and only producer of certified organic sugar, grown and harvested in the United States. Our renewable energy facility is the largest of its kind in North America and provides clean energy that powers our sugar operations, which helps us reduce our use of fossil fuels.  Florida Crystals also sustainably farms rice, sweet corn and other vegetables in rotation with our sugarcane.  Our rice mill is the only rice mill in Florida. 

 

OVERVIEW

This position manages the operational accounting that is comprised of agriculture, industrial and consumer products divisions and managing implementation of special projects. This position manages the monthly financial close process, financial reporting function, and technical accounting research and policy development.  This position requires an intimate understanding of the business and operations to be able to improve the value of information.  You must be comfortable working with tight deadlines and interfacing with other business functions, and operational leaders.

 

This position will closely work with the operational leadership and Group Chief Accounting Officer to formulate and administer approved accounting practices and controls throughout the organization.  The successful candidate will ensure that financial and operating reports accurately reflect the condition of the business, and provide reliable information necessary to control operations. This role will be responsible for designing operational procedures and processes that meet group standards and improve efficiency. This role develops and implements accounting policies and procedures and managing compliance of Accounting processes and internal controls.

 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate the monthly closing of the financial records for the three divisions
  • Direct the accurate and timely preparation of internal and external financial reports
  • Monitoring and controlling of costs through analysis and reporting with corrective actions
  • Conduct monthly Balance Sheet, P&L, and cost reviews
  • Prepare and publish a monthly flash report within a tight timeline
  • Prepare and publish various cost center reports
  • Review of journal entries and quarterly account reconciliations
  • Project manage and direct the budgeting and forecasting process
  • Ensure appropriate design of internal controls
  • Lead efforts to improve and shorten the monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing process
  • Assist external auditors on annual audits
  • Drive change to ensure scaling of operation, increases in efficiency and increases in quality through automation, work assessment and process improvement.
  • Understand the perspectives of leadership and other business functions including decision makers throughout the business in order to identify information needs and the most useful presentation
  • Develop people through internal rotations and build a cross-trained team
  • Undertake special and ad hoc projects

 

WORK EXPERIENCES

  • 10+ years of work experience in accounting and financial reporting
  • 6+ years in a public accounting and auditing firm.
  • 6+ years managerial/leadership experience.
  • Extensive ERP experience, SAP preferred.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related required, Higher degree (MBA+) preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant required

  • Yes – Initially manages a team of 3 groups of operational accountants
