OVERVIEW

The Senior Accountant, Tax will support the Company’s sales tax compliance function by preparing sales tax returns, performing sales tax research, maintaining sales tax systems, and assisting with related indirect tax projects. This role will help ensure accurate and timely sales tax filings, support exemption certificate and taxability processes, and work closely with tax, accounting, and business teams to maintain reliable sales tax data and processes.

 

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
  • A master’s degree in accounting or tax is preferred.
  • CPA preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)

  • Experience preparing sales and use tax returns, including gathering data, reconciling taxable sales and purchases, and supporting timely filings.
  • Working knowledge of sales tax concepts, including taxability, exemptions, resale certificates, direct pay permits, and multi-state filing requirements.
  • Ability to conduct sales tax research and summarize findings in a clear, practical manner for tax and business stakeholders.
  • Experience maintaining sales tax systems, including tax rates, product and customer taxability settings, exemption data, and related compliance workflows.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and reconciliation skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with ERP, accounting, and sales tax compliance systems; experience with SAP, OneSource tax engine, Checkpoint, Bloomberg, and Avalara tax research platforms preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with tax, accounting, IT, and business operations teams.

 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns for assigned entities and jurisdictions.
  • Gather, review, and reconcile sales, purchase, exemption, and general ledger data needed to support accurate sales tax filings.
  • Maintain sales tax compliance calendars and assist with ensuring returns, payments, and related filings are completed timely.
  • Perform sales tax research on product taxability, customer exemptions, sourcing rules, manufacturing-related exemptions, and other indirect tax matters using preferred research platforms such as Checkpoint, Bloomberg, and Avalara.
  • Document research conclusions and maintain support for tax positions, filings, exemption decisions, and system configurations.
  • Maintain sales tax systems by updating rates, jurisdictions, product taxability, customer exemption status, and other sales tax configuration items, including work within SAP and OneSource as applicable.
  • Support exemption certificate processes, including reviewing certificates, maintaining certificate files, and coordinating with business teams to resolve missing or expired documentation.
  • Assist with sales tax audits, notices, refund claims, and information requests by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, and supporting responses.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities related to data quality, sales tax compliance workflows, and sales tax system controls.
  • Coordinate with tax, accounting, IT, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and business operations teams to resolve sales tax issues.
  • Stay current on sales and use tax law changes that may impact on the Company’s filings, systems, and business processes.
  • Prioritize work effectively, manage recurring compliance deadlines, and take ownership of assigned sales tax responsibilities.
